CAN I GAME TOO MUCH?

Playing games can help us learn, solve problems and work well as part of a team. But spending too much time gaming can impact us in negative ways.

If we spend too much time gaming it can make us forget about other important things in our life. It can become so important that we don’t want to go outside, see any friends or talk to our family. If we get used to gaming a lot, not being able to game could make us feel stressed, angry or sad.

There is nothing wrong with gaming, but it’s important to make sure our gaming habits are healthy.

WHAT COULD THE SIGNS BE?

●  Spending all our time on games

●  Not being able to sleep, or avoiding sleep to game

●  Not seeing friends, or going to school to stay home and game

●  Sore eyes, hands/wrists and/or neck from gaming too long

●  Using games to escape from difficult thoughts or problems

WHAT CAN I DO IF I’M WORRIED ABOUT MYSELF OR A FRIEND?

Sometimes we can develop unhealthy habits which might need some support, and everyone deserves support when they need it.

It can be tricky if you’re worried about yourself or a friend, but the most important thing is that there is always someone you can talk to.

Try talking to your trusted adult if you are worried about yourself or a friend. If you’re not sure how to do that you can talk to Childline on their website or call them on 0800 1111. They are confidential and can help you figure out how to talk to someone about your gaming habits.
