Our latest update is currently being rolled out to our Safer Schools platform, which will be available to all existing users of the app. The update will include improvements to the layout of the home screen and exciting new features that will allow greater user engagement.

How Does it Look?

Our in-house development team have streamlined the Safer Schools interface. Sections that were previously hidden deeper in the app will be added to the home screen’s main menu.

  • Any absences reported on the app, will be delivered to the designated email address on the Safer Schools portal.
  • The Safer Schools administrator will use ‘Customisation’ on our new Safer Schools Portal to select an email address for absences.

What’s New?

 

  • Alerts: These can now be found at the top of the main menu. The alert section allows users to go back and view any notifications that they may have missed, including online safety alerts, video hub alerts, information, and resources.
  • Home Learning Hub: The home learning section has been given a prominent position on the main menu. This section allows specific users With brand new lessons launching this week, this menu addition will provide you with easier access and age-appropriate content.
  • Digital Safety: The Digital Safety section on the home screen has been renamed to Online Safety. This will provide users with various guides to online safeguarding information.

    Help and our Online Safety Centre is now also included in this menu section of the app, keeping all your Online Safety advice and resources together in one place.

  • Absence Reporting Feature: This new feature allows parents and carers to report absences directly from on the app. To find out more about this feature and the benefits it can provide, please visit (Please note your School will have to activate this feature before it will become visible) here.

How to Install the Update?

With iOS and android devices, apps that you download from the App Store are automatically updated by default. If you have turned this feature switched off and need to know how to update the app manually, you have one of two options.

Option One: A Push Notification will be sent to your app with update details.

  • All users of the Safer School app will be sent a push notification with instructions on how to update the app. This notification can be found in the Alerts section which is currently situated in the News Hub.

  • You will need to turn on notifications from your Safer Schools app. Please see a short guide on how to do this below.


Option Two: Update your app manually through your settings on your phone.

Updating the App on Android

  • From the Play Store Home screen, tap the Menu icon in the upper-left corner.

  • Tap My Apps & Games.

  • Tap the Safer Schools App to Update or tap Update all to download all available updates.

  • If presented, review App Permissions then tap Accept to proceed with App Update.

Updating the App on iOS

  • Open the App Store, then tap Today at the bottom of the screen.

  • Tap your profile icon at the top of the screen.

  • Scroll down to see pending updates and release notes.
  • Tap Update next to the Safer Schools app to Update.
