Games developers issued new guidance on protecting children

  • Under new guidance from the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), video game developers must identify if players are under 18.
  • The recommendations also highlighted that game developers should discourage false declarations of age.
  • They also must ensure games are not detrimental to children’s wellbeing.

TikTok adds dedicated video feeds for sports, fashion, gaming and food

  • TikTok have added new topics to its homepage.
  • Instead of just “Following” and “For You,” feeds, users are now seeing videos dedicated to “Sports”, “Fashion”, “Gaming” and “Food.”
  • These features will make it easier for users to watch, stay up to date and/or get inspiration from content they may be more interested in.
  • Whilst beneficial for some users, it is not clear if the update is here to stay as some users may find the app’s homepage overcrowded with different features.
  • However, the update may help content creators reach more niche audiences.
